98-405 Student Taught Courses (StuCo): Introduction to Arknights

Arknights is an anime-style 2D tower defense RPG that has gained worldwide popularity since its release in 2019. Its creation has almost single-handedly taken its creator Hypergryph from a small, unknown company to the big name in mobile gacha gaming it is today. In this course, we approach Arknights from two lenses: a tower defense game perspective, using it to improve students’ strategic thinking; as well as a game design perspective, analyzing features and background story to see why it is as well-received as it is. Students will explore concepts about the game, different use cases for different characters, how to combine tactics to beat difficult levels and succeed in unknown ones, and, of course, experience the wonder of game design that is Arknights.
