85-703 Readings in Natural and Artificial Systems for Perception
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course will cover both historical and stateoftheart approaches to perceptual systems considered from both the biological and artificial systems standpoints. The focus will be on how different perceptual goals are achieved through an understanding of both representational and computational principles. Readings will be drawn primarily from scientific articles and book chapters. Topics will include how retinal structure enables function, neural structures for implementing computation, imagescene segmentation, object classification, shape invariance, tracking and motion, illusionsadversarial attacks.
