80-826 Seminar on Game Theory, AI, and X-Risk
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This graduate seminar will explore recent developments in the philosophy of artificial intelligence, with a focus on existential risk from artificial general intelligence. We will examine key arguments and apply formal tools, including game theory, decision theory, social choice theory, and Bayesian inference, to model and assess problems in this field. For the final project, students will choose a problem in AI safety broadly construed, research it, and apply formal methods to address or clarify it. While students taking both this seminar and 15784 Foundations of Cooperative AI have the option to use the same project for both courses.
