57-693 Graduate Vocal Coaching
3 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Vocal Coaching is an essential and required course for any CMU voice major and is meant to supplement the singer's training with their primary voice teacher. While the singer's primary voice teacher focuses on vocal technique, the singer's coach - a pianist - works with the singer on all of the above, except - in the classical realm - any discussion of technique. The coach is a special and trusted individual in the singer's life, often collaborating with them and drawing upon their own vast cultural base to prepare the singer for any performance or audition. Singers make music from within their own instrument and rely on their teachers and coaches to provide feedback as to the quality and projection of sound.
