57-606 Music History for Graduate Students I
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Music History for Graduate Students I surveys the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods up to approximately 1750, highlighting major musical, historical, and cultural characteristics of each period along with representative examples of composers and surviving repertoire. Courses in the remedial Music History sequence prepare students with insufficient scores on the History Proficiency Tests for graduatelevel musicology courses and the Graduate Comprehensive Project. They do not count towards the requirements of the graduate degree. A grade of at least a B in this course is needed to fulfill the requirements of the History Proficiency Test.
