54-700 Graduate Introduction to Playwriting
9 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Using Aristotles Poetics we will investigate the nuts and bolts of how and why plays work. Throughout the semester we will read contemporary plays and see how they match up to the guidelines set forth by Aristotle. Once we have a working knowledge of what a play can be, students will be asked to write a few short pieces over the course of the semester ranging from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. Come ready to write.
