53-559 Reality Computing: RE_CONSTRUCTING AUTHENTICITY
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Reality computing encompasses a constellation of technologies focused around capturing reality laser scanning, photogrammetry, working with spatial data CAD, physical modeling, simulation, and using data to understand, interact with, and influence the physical world augmented virtual reality, projector systems, 3d printing, robotics. This iteration of the reality computing course will collaborate with the Low Relief architectural studio class who are studying architectural illusions, arrays of techniques to trick the senses, including the use of faux materials, forced perspective, and applied media to walls and ceilings e.g. fresco and examine the relationship of modern technologies such as robotics, 3D printing, and extended reality as methods of further exploring and prototyping these extended spaces. Topics of special focus within the course are architectural illusion Joshua Bard and augmented and virtual reality platforms Tom Corbett.
