51-356 Modes & Making of Form Language
9 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course is part seminar and part design project practice. It is an elective for students with advanced interest in exploring the meaning, affect, and interpretation of aesthetics and its language in form development. During the first half of the semester, each week has a theme that is explored through readings and discussions while using various objects, spaces, and other examples to guide and expand our thinking. There will be opportunities to sketch ideas inspired from these conversations along the way. For the second half of this class, a project statement will be given, and project work will begin with the goal of synthesizing the seminar component of the class into form through modeling. Project work may result in a variety of ways from practical to exploratory to experimental.
