49-781 Introduction to Machine Learning
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
The landscape of software products is being redefined by artificial intelligence. This course provides current and future product managers, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders with a comprehensive introduction to traditional and modern machine learning. We trace a path from the foundational algorithms that turn data into predictions to the powerful architectures that drive today's Generative AI and AI Agents. Through hands-on exercises, students will learn to evaluate, design, and responsibly deploy AI capabilities into innovative products. The course project requires students to design and prototype a novel AI-infused product feature. Some class sessions use a Flipped Classroom model, with lectures viewed offline to dedicate class time to hands-on labs, discussions, and project work. Other class sessions will be delivered as lectures.
