48-782 Design Computation I
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This is a fastpaced intense halfsemester technical introduction to the fundamentals of objectoriented programming targeted at design students with an emphasis on producing clear, robust, and reasonably effective code. We will cover a large subset of the Python programming language including a standard graphics library and programming paradigms. To reinforce the programming topics, we will also introduce the visualization of geometric form with graphics, animation and the development of generative systems such as cellular automaton, Lsystems, fractals and shapegrammars. The course consists of lectures, computer cluster instruction and online assignments. This course assumes no prior programming experience. This course serves as a prerequisite for 48784 Design Computation II Algorithms and 48724 Scripting and Parametric Design.
