48-764 BIM and AI For Architects: Empowering Innovative Architectural Design with Revit
3–6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Building Information Modeling (BIM) enables architects to manage project information in one integrated environment, supporting design, analysis, coordination, and communication. BIM can also strengthen design by helping architects compare options, evaluate performance early, and support informed dialogue with clients. This course will offer hands-on experience working with Autodesk Revit and Forma on an architectural BIM project. Students will leverage the parametric capabilities of Autodesk Revit for a more efficient design process. The course will focus on advanced parametric modeling techniques and explore analytic possibilities available for architects in the early stages of design: quantitative program area analysis, energy analysis, lighting analysis, and initial quantitative estimates. This course is designed for graduate students. Fourth and fifth-year undergraduates with an interest in BIM are welcome to join. Basic knowledge of Revit modelling is required, either from 48485, 48568 (the Revit 3-unit section), 12711, or other background approved by the instructor.
Prerequisites: 48-568 or 48-485 or 12-711
Offered: Fall 2026, Fall 2025
