46-889 Business Value Through Integrative Analytics
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
Business Value of Integrative Analytics puts together the virtuous pipeline of using data to derive descriptive insights, make predictive models and incorporate them in prescriptive decision making. It is intended to be a complement to the capstone that will involve doing all of this in a concrete business setting. Consequently, the course will introduce these integrative ideas in the context of a case study that all students will work through in stages over the mini as part of a team. Since the course builds on building descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models, the foundational courses on building such models are prerequisites: 46885 (Data Exploration and Visualization), 46886 (Machine Learning for Business Applications 1), and 46888 (Optimization for Prescriptive Analytics). In addition, you will need to work with data and understand basic statistical ideas so you will need to have taken 46884 (Modern Data Management) and 46883 (Statistical Foundations of Business Analytics). As a course that is designed to help you excel in your capstone projects, the class will necessarily review and employ materials from the pre-requisite courses and organize them in a framework that will be useful in approaching your projects. The course will have one case study that you will work on in teams to complete over the course of the mini to lead up to a final presentation and report.
