46-883 Statistical Foundations of Business Analytics
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course provides the statistical tools necessary to conduct empirical analyses in various fields of business including finance, economics, management, marketing, real estate, strategy. Topics covered include the analysis of generalized linear regression models, inference and hypothesis testing, the design of experiments, panel data methods, consumer demand estimation. Emphasis will be placed on the theoretical grounding of these statistical methods with the purpose of making students able to assess the validity and robustness of conclusions drawn from data. This theoretical knowledge will be practiced through coding exercises on existing datasets in R. By the end of the course, students should be able to (i) autonomously identify the statistical tools that are most suited to conduct their analysis given the data available to them, (ii) know how to make inference about their target parameters and assess the robustness of their results, (iii) perform these analyses using R.
