6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course focuses on how data can be used to enhance the management of people within organizations. Employees are an organization's most valuable asset, translating strategy into results. However, many companies still rely on intuition, tradition, or bias in their people management decisions. With the rise of people analytics, there is an opportunity to bring a more scientific approach to managing talent, improving outcomes for both employees and the organization. This course will focus on key methodological approaches in people analytics, placing a strong emphasis on causal identification and the application of advanced data analysis techniques in HR contexts. The goal is to equip students with the tools necessary to critically assess data, draw meaningful conclusions, and implement evidence-based decision-making in organizations. Students should have a basic familiarity with data analysis and statistical concepts. Prior exposure to regression modeling and research methods will support success in the course.
