27-433 Optical, Dielectric, and Magnetic Properties of Materials
9 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This is Part II of a twopart course sequence Part I is 27432 concerned with the optical, dielectric, and magnetic properties of materials. Students taking Part II will develop an indepth understanding of the optical, dielectric, and magnetic properties of materials. Topics the free electron and Lorentz oscillator models and their relationship with the optical and dielectric properties of metals and insulators, polarization mechanisms leading to piezo and ferroelectricity magnetization and its classification among materials magnetic domains and soft and hard magnets. Examples of applications will be discussed.
