24-212 Special Topics: Maker Series: Make It Move
9 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course explores many types of mechanisms for movement and their optimal applications. A significant portion of class will be dedicated to handson labs, during which objects are dissected to reveal their methods of movement. Springs, gears, motors, pneumatics, levers, wheels, bearings, and other components will be analyzed for their roles in energy storage, power delivery, and motion. These lessons will culminate in a complete design project, for which students will use rapid fabrication equipment to make a prototype that moves.
