19-975 Energy Innovation and Entrepreneurship
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
The Energy industry comprises a vast landscape of functions, applications and stakeholders. Liberalization of the electricity sector has allowed for hundreds of startups all over the world to join the behemoths of this space and together revolutionize how energy is generated, transferred and used. The path from innovation to entrepreneurship is mostly vague, complicated and requires untethered commitment by the newcomers managers and leaders. This course aims to educate innovators and visionaries in becoming entrepreneurs in the fastpaced ecosystem that aims to zero out carbon emissions in timelines as short as 10 years. Several executives from bluechips and accomplished startups, VCs and government officers will present their companies journeys, how they span off from university projects or built on market gaps, where does funding come from, what are the current and foreseeable challenges and roadblocks to their visions and how does the future for the overall energy and sustainability space inspire them.
