18-757 Network Management and Control
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
This course provides an understanding of the principles of broadband networks. The broadband networks differ from currently existing communication networks in many aspects and these issues will be dealt with in the course. Broadband networks are designed to support many different services, ranging from low bandwidth telemetry to high bandwidth applications digitized video. The course will cover the underlying concepts of the broadband networks, and expose the research problems in next generation networks. Many concepts ATM, SONET, MPLS, highspeed switching architecture, highspeed network control, unified control plane GMPLS, and optical networks will be discussed. The course project will explore latest network technologies, design networking systems, and evaluate via simulation techniques. 4 hrs. lec. Prerequisites A course in probability 18756 and senior or graduate standing.
