17-881 Special Topics: Sensing and Internet-of-Things
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
IoT devices and Sensors are all around us. They are used to sense human context, for healthcare, environmental conditioning and helping give us useful information to help manage our lives. When coupled with actuators they can help with automating and controlling many, often mundane and routine, aspects of our lives. These sensors are also now pervasive across a wide variety of industries, from industrial settings, to manufacturing, to healthcare, to smart buildings. When coupled with the rapid advances in Machine Learning, IoT is expected to have huge potential to thus change, and advance society. In this advanced seminar course we will read about recent work in this rapidly evolving space of IoT and Sensing Systems. The list of papers will be solicited from the top recent conferences. Students will be expected to submit their summaries of these papers and lead a few paper discussions and participate in class discussions.
