0–48 units, Carnegie Mellon University
16-992 Industry Practicum is a structured internship course for masters students completing a part-time internship during the academic year (fall or spring semester). Designed to integrate academic learning with real-world experience, the course enables students to apply discipline-specific knowledge, develop professional skills, explore career paths, and engage in reflective practice. Through guided reflection, students enhance their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while gaining insight into workplace dynamics and organizational culture. Students must be physically located in Pittsburgh and may work up to 20 hours per week. The course fulfills required elective units for the MRSD & MSCV degrees and may only be completed once. Assessment includes regular check-ins, written reflections, and a final report or presentation. Students must submit an offer letter at the start of the semester and a minimum three-page summary of their internship experience at the end of the semester. International students in F-1 or J-1 status must consult with their OIE advisor regarding appropriate work authorization (CPT or pre-completion OPT).
