15-811 Verifying Complex Systems
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
As the world increasingly depends on software to control our finances, drive our cars, and manage our medical devices, how can we tell whether that software will be correct, secure, or reliable Recent research suggests formal software verification is an increasingly plausible tool for definitively proving properties of real, complex systems code. In this course, students will learn how to use a variety of tools to verify the correctness, security, and reliability of systems software, how to assess the tradeoffs between such tools, and how to reason about the algorithms underlying them. Students will present, critique, and actively discuss stateoftheart research papers, complete a small set of assignments, and develop a research project that innovates in the area of systems verification. This course is open to enterprising Masters and undergraduate students. Please refer to httpswww.cs.cmu.educsdgradcourseschedules17.html for the most recent schedule updates.
