12-742 Data Mining in Infrastructure
6 units, Carnegie Mellon University
The intent of this course is to introduce students to a number of fundamental concepts and computational approaches relevant to engineering decision support: fundamental logics used in engineering, knowledge-based decision support, approaches to optimization and search (deterministic-, stochastic- and genetic algorithm-based), and machine learning (decision tree analysis and artificial neural networks). The nature of these different approaches and their applicability to different types of engineering decision contexts in the civil infrastructure domain will also be discussed. Prerequisites: graduate standing or permission of instructor
