12-358 Materials Lab
3 units, Carnegie Mellon University
An understanding of the behavior and properties of materials used in the fields of civil and environmental engineering is developed through handson testing. Mechanical and physical properties and their variabilities will be studied for modern civil and environmental engineering materials. As part of a team, students will develop an ability to design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data related to material properties to solve realistic civil and environmental engineering problems. Students will practice team writing skills as they compose lab and other reports. Understanding of material properties will prepare students to assess the performance and fitness of new materials.
