12-336 Soil Mechanics Laboratory
3 units, Carnegie Mellon University
An understanding of soil behavior and composition, which is fundamental to the practice of geotechnical engineering, is enhanced by handson experimentation and experience. In this course, students will conduct experiments that are standard to the field including classification, mineralogy, compaction, permeability, consolidation, and shear strength. Student teams will develop components of testing protocols, take measurements, analyze and interpret data, and communicate results through reports.
