09-701 Quantum Chemistry I
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
The main topics to be covered will include exploration of the Schroedinger equation, operators, particle in the box, harmonic oscillator and hydrogen atom, tunneling, SternGerlach experiment and quantum mechanical postulates, timeindependent and timedependent perturbation theory, matrix diagonalization. The student will learn to master the fundamental concepts and techniques of quantum mechanics. The parallel mini course Mathematical Analysis for Chemistry will provide the necessary mathematical background.
