Scientific and engineering research is useful only if it is effectively communicated to the target community. Every career path, including academic, industrial, and governmentalregulatory jobs, requires written and oral communication. Because most chemical engineers receive no formal training in scientific communication, this course offers an opportunity to differentiate yourself from the pack and enhance the impact of your research. We will use evidencebased techniques to improve your writing, graphmaking, and oral presentation skills. We will discuss several forms of scientific communication, including the manuscript publication process, conference abstract submissions, and presentations for expert vs. nonexpert audiences. Because the majority of the writing and presentation work in this course will be based on your own research, it will directly aid the completion of your degree. NOTE This course is open to Chemical Engineering PhD students.
