06-804 Special Topics: Drug Delivery Systems
9 units, Carnegie Mellon University
The body is remarkable in its ability to sequester and clear foreign entities whether they be bad e.g. pathogens or good e.g. therapeutic drugs. This course will explore the design principles being used to engineer modern drug delivery systems capable of overcoming the bodys innate defenses to achieve therapeutic effect. Specifically, we will study the chemistry, formulation, and mechanisms of systems designed to deliver DNA, siRNA, chemotherapeutics, and proteins across a variety of physiological barriers. This is a graduate level course that is also open to undergraduate seniors.
