06-100 Introduction to Chemical Engineering
12 units, Carnegie Mellon University
We equip students with creative engineering problem-solving techniques and fundamental chemical engineering material balance skills. Lectures, laboratory experiments, and recitation sessions are designed to provide coordinated training and experience in data analysis, material property estimation for single- and multi-phase systems, basic process flowsheet, reactive and non-reactive mass balances, problem solving strategies and tools, and team dynamics. The course is targeted for CIT First Year students. 21-120 Differential and Integral Calculus is a corequisite for 06-100 Intro to ChemE. If enrolled in 21-090 Pre-Calculus in the fall of the first year, students should enroll in a different intro to engineering course in the fall and take 06-100 Into to ChemE in the spring concurrently with 21-120.
Prerequisites: none listed
